Yeesh, Grantville. Hated driving to that place. The Vet was the worst place in the summer. South Street afterward was fun. A few times I went to Buckingham (?) I was a bit nicer. I was more eastern than central on the whole.

Interesting points regarding the organizational flow chart. By the way, that flow chart published by the Society reminds me of one of those convoluted flow charts used to outline the authority structure in a large governmental agency. It's interesting how the New Testament's emphasis on a New Covenant and a personal relationship with Christ Jesus has been pushed aside to make room for a corporate style management structure. It's like a multi-level marketing enterprise on steroids. But, I digress . . . .
Wow. Digress away! That is one of the most awesome statements ever.
These days I'm not really feeling a personal relationship with anything spiritual but if I were I'm sure I wouldn't sign up for a religious org chart. Agreed that we get enough of that at the office. (I'm sure it's no coincidence that there is an enormous amount of MLM at the KH).

I'm very much of the "to each thier own" mindset. It's nice of you to put that out there. I agree, we all have pretty common backgrounds. Each of us grow pretty differently.
But, when it comes to politics (and religion for that matter): Keep your hands out of my pocket and your damn laws off my body!

What is the value of higher education. Could what you want to do be learned at a local vocational school instead.
This is answered easily enough. I didn't go to university. I did take many courses, and hold more industry certifications than everyone else in my IT department combined. Yet I earn the second lowest salary in our department of 6 people. Some earn as much as $35 K more than me. Why? They have degrees. I don't.
W
Hey Finally Free aka "W",
I'll beg to differ from you a little bit here. I have been successful despite not having a degree. I am also in the tech industry. Up until my late 20s I earned very little (especially for the IT industry). I was also primarily focused on JW matters. around my late 20s, I grew a spine and started doing what was best for my immediate family. This included moving away and pretty much fading from JW life.
Not coincidentally (in my opinion) my change in attitude and dedication to work reaped rewards. I got several promotions and doubled my salary in less than five years.
Personally, I do NOT think that a degree is the end-all. However, I am nearly finished my own and I will complete it (some day). I think confidence, determination, skill, acumen, and work experience go a VERY long way.
Everyone's circumstances are different but I have only interviewed for ONE job out of many in my career where they came back and rejected me because I do not have a completed degree. Most tech jobs say BS in IT or related job experience. Certifications tend to be of value for a few years, but diminis as the market is saturated (see: Microsoft, A+, etc...)
Keep the faith, man! shop your skills around. Sometimes you need to leave a bad situation/environment behind and start fresh. Hmmm, was that in reference to religion or business... or both! ;-)

Hah! Speaking as a "faithful obedient" one who attended vocational/technical school instead of college since my parents were also faithful and obedient, I will say thier logic is way off. I found the caliber people who attended vo-tech were WAY lower than the AP students. These were the girls who were less than prudes and often pregnant by 17. These were the guys who fought at the drop of a hat. Drug and alchohol use was more frequent in this group. Is this REALLY the best solution?
I'm sure there are wild times to be had at ANY college/university. But that can be done in moderation. I agree with another poster that there are people of other Christian faiths who don't believe evolutionary theory but still learn it.
You sure aren't learning critical thinking and advanced math or science concepts at the KH.

Anyone else out there live in or know of primarily JW apartment complexes?
Never have I heard of such a thing! Amazing. The implications are staggering.
First I would be sure it would be *just* like Paradise! Brothers and sisters living together "watching out" for each other (to sin). Peaceful harmony with the animals (although they are of the six-legged, arthropodic variety due to all the excess moisture from faulty plumbing).
That whole line about "you aren't supposed to complain" is so lame. I rent to a JW (just by chance, I didn't plan for it) and if the air goes out, I fix it. If the plumbing leaks I fix it. If he doesn't pay the rent, he'd be out on his arse. See: it's a mutual thing. I'm sure there would be little leeway for you if you opted to not pay the rent. Or would they "not complain" about that either.
Is this for real or just some local phenomenon?

and I also guess instead of Borg it will be Porg, or Worg if in Walkill!
Hi, ISOT.
This seems to be a common misconception (or at best a secondary meaning). I'm sure the original folks who associated Borg with JWs meant it not as Brooklyn Organization but rather as a reference to Star Trek: Next Generation. The Borg on STNG are a really good metaphor for the WTS. They only think as a collective about the collective. All contrary cultures will be assimilated or destroyed. "Resistance is futile" is thier mantra.
Sound familiar? ;-)
I can only imagine someone thought it a clever coincidence that it could also be an abbreviation for Brookyln Organization.
I'm REALLY not a Trekkie! I do watch the movies. BTW: The new one coming out soon looks pretty cool.
